Abstract
Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of English textbook of 4th Grade of primary school in Algeria by examining its strengths and weaknesses, so that textbook designers can rely on it to make necessary changes and improvements in English textbooks for young learners. Algeria has witnessed a radical change in the educational system by implementing English in primary schools; earlier English was studied only for middle and secondary schools. However, with the globalization, Algerian government find it necessary to teach English for young learners. The research targets English teachers of primary schools in Khenchela. In this study we opted for a quantitative method by using a questionnaire that was administered to 16 primary school teachers to investigate their views about the textbook of 4th Grade of primary schools. The results show that teachers are satisfied with the use of this textbook, they approved on that English textbook captures the learners’ interest and motivate them to learn English. Moreover, it contains all the elements that learners need (Grammar-vocabulary…). It also covers the four skills, and contains a sufficient number of exercises that help the learners to practice his language. Yet some changes should be done to improve the quality of the used materials in Primary schools. The dissertation is consisted of 3 major chapters, two of them are mainly theoretic and the third one is practical. The first chapter deals with the teaching English as a foreign language in Algeria, more specifically in primary schools, it presents different teaching approaches and techniques that help both of teachers and young learners. The second chapter presents the concept of textbook evaluation, and how textbook can be evaluated; in which several definitions and methods are presented. Moreover it presents the importance of evaluating a textbook. The third chapter is more practical in which we opted for quantitative approach as a research methodology and designed questionnaire that is combination of several questions and checklist criteria to evaluate the textbook of 4th Grade of Primary schools. Results revealed that teachers’ views are mainly positive, yet the textbook needs to be developed in terms of language and grammar. Therefore it is suggested to make radical changes by simplifying the used vocabulary and it is better to change the opted method of teaching English in Primary schools in Algeria.

تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى معرفة اراء المعلمين فيما يتعلق بتقييم كتاب اللغة الإنجليزية للصف الرابع الابتدائي في الجزائر
من أجل تقييم نقاط القوة والضعف فيه، حتى يتمكن مصممو الكتب المدرسية من الاعتماد على هذه الدراسة لإجراء
التغييرات والتحسينات اللازمة في كتب اللغة الإنجليزية المدرسية للمتعلمين الصغار. يستهدف البحث معلمي اللغة
الإنجليزية في المدارس الابتدائية في خنشلة. تم توجيه استبيان إلى 16 معلمًا في المرحلة الابتدائية بشأن آرائهم حول
كتاب اللغة الإنجليزية للصف الرابع الابتدائي. تظهر النتائج أن المعلمين راضون عن استخدام هذا الكتاب المدرسي ولكن
يجب إجراء بعض التغييرات لتحسين جودة المواد المستخدمة في المدارس الابتدائية. تتكون الأطروحة من 3 فصول
رئيسية، اثنان منهم نظريان بشكل أساسي والثالث عملي. يتناول الفصل الأول تدريس اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية في
الجزائر، وتحديدًا في المدارس الابتدائية، ويقدم مناهج وتقنيات تدريس مختلفة تساعد كل من المعلمين و التلاميذ.
الفصل الثاني يوضح مفهوم تقييم الكتاب المدرسي، وكيف يمكن تقييم الكتاب المدرسي؛ حيث يتم تقديم العديد من
التعريفات والأساليب. علاوة على ذلك، فإنه يعرض أهمية تقييم الكتاب المدرسي.اما الفصل الثالث فهو يعد فصلا تطبيقيا
حيث اخترنا النهج الكمي كمنهجية بحث وصممنا استبيانًا من عدة أسئلة وقائمة معايير لتقييم الكتاب المدرسي للصف
الرابع من المدارس الابتدائية. كشفت النتائج أن آراء المعلمين إيجابية في الغالب، ومع ذلك، فإن الكتاب المدرسي يحتاج
إلى تطوير من حيث اللغة والقواعد
