Abstract
L’extrait aqueux a
conclusion, l’extrait aqueux d’Artemisia absinthium L. possède un potentiel pharmacologique
Abstract
Artemisia absinthium L. is a medicinal plant widely used since antiquity in traditional
medicine for the treatment of various ailments, particularly digestive disorders, infections, and
inflammatory conditions, owing to its richness in bioactive secondary metabolites. The present
study evaluated the phytochemical, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory potential of the aqueous
extract of Artemisia absinthium L. collected in the Khenchela region. The aqueous extract was
obtained by decoction and then subjected to qualitative phytochemical screening as well as
spectrophotometric assays for the quantification of polyphenols, flavonoids, flavanols, proteins,
and total sugars. Antioxidant activity was assessed using the DPPH assay, hydroxyl radical
scavenging test, and total antioxidant capacity (TAC), while in vitro anti-inflammatory activity
was evaluated through inhibition of egg albumin and bovine serum albumin (BSA)
denaturation. The results revealed the presence of several classes of bioactive compounds,
notably polyphenols, saponins, and starch, along with a considerable content of phenolic
compounds. The aqueous extract exhibited significant antioxidant activity, characterized by a
strong free radical scavenging capacity, with IC₅₀ values of 0,052 ± 0,00057 mg/mL and 1.389
± 0.2008 mg/mL for the DPPH and hydroxyl radical assays, respectively, as well as a total
antioxidant capacity of 0.165 ± 0.02 mg/mL of extract. Furthermore, the extract showed notable
anti-inflammatory activity, with inhibition of egg albumin denaturation of 85.72 ± 9.41% and
BSA denaturation of 84.33 ± 12.77ns %, compared to sodium diclofenac used as a reference,
which showed an inhibition of 70.12 ± 0.80ns %. These biological properties may be attributed
to the plant’s richness in polyphenols, flavonoids, terpenoids, and other bioactive secondary
metabolites. In conclusion, the aqueous extract of Artemisia absinthium L. demonstrates
promising pharmacological potential, supporting its traditional use and highlighting its value as
a natural source of therapeutic compounds.
