Abstract
Abstract The present study investigates error types and causes in translations made by students of English. In order to find out and classify types of translation errors and identify their causes, the study employed a mixed method design. Thirty students were selected randomly as a sample among the eighty six students of the third year in the department of English - the University Abbes Laghrour of Khenchela. The data were collected using both of questionnaires and the analysis of the third year students’ exam papers provided by our teacher in order to help us in our study. Observation, analysis and note taking are the techniques of collecting data. The results obtained showed that, even though students of English share positive attitudes towards translation, and enjoy a very acceptable level of performance, they still fall into the trap of some serious errors which have to be remediated and avoided.
