Abstract
This dissertation aimed at investigating the relationship between socio-cultural Factors and personality development. It also discussed the influence of parenting style on students’ academic performance.
There are many factors that affect personality development and general treats. They could be environmental, social and genetics. Yet, culture is believed to be the most important of all.
This research is composed of two main parts, a theoretical part which consists of one chapter and an empirical part made up of one chapter as well.
The first chapter aimed at tackling the subject of students’ personality and academic achievement from a socio-cultural standpoint by pinpointing the relationship between the two of them and the importance of parenting style.
The second chapter on the other hand, was concerned with the research tools, data analysis of the questionnaires administered to both teachers and students. also, a short test directed to the students’ parents.
In order To achieve this research's aims, the study used two questionnaires: One designed for Secondary school; University students and another one administrated for the teachers.
The study also used a small test tor the students’ parents to asses their parenting style in relation to their child's academic performance and personality treats in general.
The findings of this study were analyzed using descriptive analysis based on data collected from the two questionnaires and the parenting style test, it was found that there are significant differences between those who have been raised in a traditional family with strict parents and those who have been raised as an independent adult.
