Abstract
This study aims to find out whether online chatting can affect students writing performance. It focuses on the written language of chat communication of English student’s productions in order to enable English learners to understand the importance of academic writing, and to be aware of the negative impact of the online chatting. The research findings state that the frequent use of chat affects positively student’s written production. The study suggests online chat can be used as a supplementary learning tool in higher education classrooms as it brings positive effect not only on student’s learning.
