dc.description.abstractAbstract This study was carried out at the University of Khenchela to investigate and shed some light on the importance of vocabulary in E.F.L communication. The main objectives of this research are to check students’ knowledge about how important is using their words in communicating and the teachers’ strategies of teaching them vocabulary. To gather data about the situation, questionnaires were the data gathering tool of this research and the results obtained are directed to draw the attention of first-year English students at the Department of English at Khenchela University to the importance of acquiring vocabulary communicating with it fluently. First-year English teachers’ have also stated that their students had trouble mastering vocabulary. As a result, students perceive communication in a foreign language to be a challenging undertaking. Therefore, this study highlights the importance of vocabulary acquisition in EFL communication.
