The majority of face recognition methods using threedimensional data, either alone or in combination with two-dimensional intensity images are covered in existing survey papers. General 3D face representation has been extensively studied and various approaches have been proposed in the literature. This overview focuses on the class of researches exploiting curve concept to represent facial surface for three-dimensional face recognition using profile or contour curves. Challenges involved in estimating the surface by curves are also identified.
