Abstract
Abstract:
Wheat is an important crop in terms of human consumption in many countries, and it
is among the three major cereals along with rice and maize, and it is the third largest in the
global harvest.
This study aims to know the behavior of durum wheat varieties at the morphological,
physiological, biochemical, cytogenetic and molecular level vis-à-vis water stress; as well as
the effect of this constraint on the components of yield during plant development.
Improving yield in wheat is a constant challenge for the farmer due to the biotic and
abiotic stresses imposed by the growing conditions in the Mediterranean basin which limit
production.
The techniques adopted to achieve these objectives range from the improvement of
morpho-physiological parameters linked to yield, to the use of biochemical markers through
cytogenetic characterization until arriving at the use of molecular markers by mapping the
genome. in order to develop more efficient varieties which manage to achieve good yield
performances under biotic and abiotic stress conditions.
In the first part, we examined the different physio-morphological, biochemical and
cytogenetic characteristics of durum wheat.
In the second part, we examined the effect of abiotic and biological limitations and the
physiological and biochemical mechanisms of plant tolerance to water stress.
In the third part, we examined the uses of molecular marker techniques in the
improvement and development of plants.
