Abstract
RÉSUMÉ :
Ce travail analyse la claustration et la violence symbolique dans le roman Au commencement était la mer de Maïssa Bey, fondé sur le contexte de la Décennie Noire. À travers une approche sémiotique et sociocritique, l'étude montre comment l'appartement familial devient un espace de surveillance qui efface l'identité féminine. Grâce à une « esthétique de l'urgence » et une « écriture blanche », Bey brise le silence patriarcal. Malgré la fin tragique de l'héroïne Nadia, l'acte d'écrire s'érige en un espace de liberté et de résistance.

Abstract:
This study analyzes spatial confinement (claustration) and symbolic violence in Maïssa Bey's novel Au commencement était la mer, set against the backdrop of Algeria's Black Decade. Using a semiotic and sociocritical approach, the research demonstrates how the family apartment mutates into a space of surveillance that erases female identity. Through an "aesthetics of urgency" and "white writing", Bey breaks the patriarchal silence. Despite the tragic fate of the heroine Nadia, the act of writing endures as a space of freedom and resistance.

تتناول هذه الدراسة آليات الانحباس المكاني والعنف الرمزي في رواية في البدء كان البحر للكاتبة مايسا باي، تزامناً مع
العشرية السوداء في الجزائر. ومن خلال مقاربة سيميائية ونقدية-اجتماعية، يظهر البحث كيف تتحول الشقة العائلية إلى
فضاء مراقبة يمحو الهوية الأنثوية. غير أن الكاتبة، عبر "جماليات الاستعجال" و"الكتابة البيضاء"، تنجح في كسر
الصمت الأبوي؛ ورغم النهاية التراجيدية للبطلة نادية، يظل فعل الكتابة مساحة للمقاومة والحرية.
