Abstract Classroom interaction has occupied quite an important place in the field of second and foreign language teaching and learning; much research has been conducted in this area. Many researchers claim that through classroom interaction knowledge can be constructed and skills can be developed. The dissertation’s main focus is to demonstrate that classroom interaction can be an effective pedagogical strategy to develop the learners’ speaking skill as well as to foster their communication capacity. The investigation takes as a case study, second year LMD students of English at Abbes Laghrour University of Khenchela. In order to achieve the aims of this research, a descriptive exploratory study is carried out. The main data gathering tools in this study are questionnaires. The questionnaires were administered to a sample of sixty EFL students and six teachers of oral expression for second year classes at Abbes Laghrour University of Khenchela, to explore the students’ and teachers’ opinions about the importance of classroom interaction in increasing the students’ production of the target language. The analysis of the questionnaires revealed that (95%) of learners and teachers consider classroom interaction as a significant factor which promotes learners’ speaking performance.
