Abstract The use of authentic materials in language teaching is supported by references and several language pedagogy experts in the process of language teaching when researching English as a foreign/second language. Such positive and supportive attitudes toward the use of such materials can be related to the many advantages in enhancing and developing learners‟ language proficiency. Furthermore, authentic materials work to intensify and develop learner‟s motivation to learn a second language. This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of authentic materials as a motivational strategy to enhance students‟ speaking proficiency in first year LMD students at the English department at Abbes Laghrour University of Khenchela. The study was performed via an online questionnaire submitted to EFL first year students in order to investigate and explore the different opinions about the use of the authentic materials to develop learners‟ speaking proficiency.
