Abstract
Abstract The current study examined the challenges that teachers face in teaching literature in foreign language classrooms. The main objectives of this study lie in investigating not only students’ perceptions of cultural aspects in literary texts but also the challenges facing teachers in dealing with intercultural literature. To address these issues, we adopted a mixed method research. Accordingly, we relied on a questionnaire directed for first-year master students and an interview for literatureteachers at Abbas Laghrour Khenchela University for the academic year 2022/2023.Where the results obtained showed that teachers rely more on the stylistic and analytical approach . The results also showed that most of the students face difficulties in understanding the language and meaning of the text, especially when dealing with poetry. In short, teachers should achieve equivalence between teaching the cultural and linguistic side and not focus only on the linguistic side of the text. Literature should be given its full right to convey the different culture and language.
