Abstract The current research demonstrates how hermeneutics as an approach can be significant in teaching literary courses to develop cultural awareness on the part of EFL learners .Using a qualitative content analysis enables us to analyze the novel of "Things Fall Apart" written by CHINUA ACHEBE in the light of the hermeneutical principles. The results of the research revealed that the hermeneutical principles have an active role in raising intercultural understanding while teaching literary products with different cultural backgrounds. Since our analysis shows a strong relationship between including hermeneutics in teaching literary courses and developing the students’ intercultural communication, we conclude that teachers should rely on such approaches because of their importance and effectiveness in teaching literature.
