Abstract : Sebkhas, are natural ecosystems, these systems are used as indicators of the geochemical evolution. Sebkhas are little depressions, contain some salt water during long periods, these sebkhas do not drained off only during heat waves in summer, some of them may even wet all the year, among the main sebkhas of the valley of khenchela city is called Mahmel,it is located in the southern steppe of the wilaya, in the constantine high plains. This present work aimed to characterize the physicochemical quality of the groundwater, the purpose of which is to identify the chemical facies of these waters, and their qualities, and to define the degree of saline contamination of the waters at the sebkha level, Physico-chemical analyzes are (temperature, pH, turbidity, conductivity, salinity) measured in situ and in the laboratory and determination of major components (Cl- , SO4 --, HCO3 - , NO3 - ,NO2- , Ca++, Mg++, Na+ , K+, NH4+) made in the laboratory of the ADE and laboratory of the abbas laghrour khenchela Uiversity .for a chemical characterization of the aquifer system. The Setting up of these facies is mainly connected to the intensive use of artificial fertilizers to improve the yield, and to the presence of carbonate formations of Jebel Chattaia and salt deposits due to the presence of trias and carbonate and gypsiferous formations of the massifs surrounding the plain.
