Abstract
ABSTRACT
Learning English as a foreign (EFL) or a second language (ESL) has become
tightlyrelated to the notion of culture. Therefore, it would be irrelevant if the learners
knownothing about the people who speak the language and the country where it is
spoken.ThisresearchisaninvestigationabouttheroleofInterculturalCommunicativeCom
petence in enhancing learners‟ Intercultural Awareness of Master II students
ofEnglishatKhenchelaUniversity;inotherwords,theknowledgethatMasterIIstudents
have and the beliefs they hold about culture likely affect their awarenesstoward ICC.
The research opts for the questionnaire with both Master II students
andteachersatKhenchelaUniversity,60studentsand7teachersfromthesameuniversity.
Moreover, the data obtained were quantitatively analyzed, and the
resultshighlightsthatteachingICCimprovesstudents‟interculturalawarenessandcompete
nce. At the end, learning about a foreign culture has positive and negativeinfluenceon
learners'attitudes.
