    Abstract The prickly pear (Opuntia ficus-indica) is very abundant on the Algerian territory. Its fruits are consumed by the local population. This plant remains poorly exploited Much research has been launched to explore this vast area of primary interest for health, particularly medicinal, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, etc. The objective of our bibliographic study is a detailed description of the genetic botanical characteristics as well as the pharmacological, cosmetic and medical interest, in another section we have talked about secondary metabolites and essential oils as well as extraction methods such as the soxhlet and cold pressure extraction. ملخص يعتبر التين الشوكي (ابتونيا فيكوس (انديكا من الأنواع المتوافرة بكثرة في الجزائر. يؤكل السكان المحليون ثمارها. لا يزال هذا النبات يستغل بشكل سيئ. تم إطلاق الكثير من الأبحاث لاستكشاف هذا المجال الواسع ذي الاهتمام الأساسي بالصحة ، وخاصة الطب ، ومستحضرات التجميل ، والأدوية ، إلخ الهدف من دراستنا الببليوغرافية هو وصف تفصيلي للخصائص النباتية الجينية بالإضافة إلى الفائدة الدوائية والتجميلية والطبية ، في قسم آخر تحدثنا عن المستقبلات الثانوية والزيوت الأساسية وكذلك طرق الاستخراج مثل: الاستخراج بالضغط على البارد و سكهلات .
